A Letter to My World; Arab World

Dear Arab World

It is not your fault; you shouldn’t be blamed for all the craziness and madness that are going on these days. You have always been a peaceful place, but your own people are straying away from the path of peace and reconciliation. Each one of them is clinging on his/her ideology, tradition, religion and belief very strongly without acknowledging the existence of other ideologies, traditions, religions and beliefs. Your people should open their minds and accept the differences, indeed, to celebrate them. They need to tolerate more, listen more, and agree to not disagree. They need to include some phrases into their dictionary of life, such as: we are different, but yet the same. One way of thinking, traditions and religions are not less important or less a part of this Arab World than other ways of thinking, traditions and religions. Those who are misled need to hold a lens and learn to zoom in on the similarities and zoom out on the differences that have split us apart. In short, dear Arab World, only when your people recognize the fact that they no longer share one religion, one tradition, one way of living and start celebrating their differences rather than fighting because of them, will eternal peace be at hand.

Abdelazim Tamimi
